ART 407 - NEW MEDIA THEORY   
Project #2 - The Transmedia Communal Narrative

Objective: To explore the following notions: communal production, non-linear narrative, transmedia, and, to a lesser extent, world-making.

For this project the entire class will construct a story. This story, however, should be able to be ‘read’ in any order. Some element (environment, character, or whatever) must carry over from one person to the next. Your portion of the story must contain that particular element but also be able to stand on its own as a story in itself yet work with the broader collaborative effort.

It does not matter how you present your portion. The only caveat is that your contribution be mediated through a digital technology somehow. That does not mean that your work exist as a digital artifact but it should, at some point, have gone through a computer, synthesizer, digital camera, voice recorder, etc. Your piece could be book, a very short movie, a recording, a series of images, a game, information graphics, an article of clothing, a technologically-enhanced live performance, etc.

After a final presentation of these works we will post the projects and documentation on a tumblr blog.

You will be evaluated on the final project and evidence of your thought process (sketches, early drafts, notes). Please keep all of this support evidence.
